Committee Assigments

Is there a “reasonable timeframe” for an HOA Board to ask for, receive and review applicants to fill a special committee? We have been waiting since May for two positions for a 5-member committee to be appointed. We know that two community members filed their applications to be considered for the July HOA meeting; the topic was not discussed; during the August meeting, the President asked for additional applicants; a formal email was sent out a couple days later from the management company asking for applications to be submitted, but presented no deadline. By all appearances, the Board is not taking this committee appointment very seriously. Do we have any recourse in a situation like this?

    Rhonda,
Unfortunately, you do not. All committee assignments are at the discretion of the board. If i were in your shoes i would attend every board meeting and ask the board why they are dragging their feet of staffing this committee? They were the ones that asked for volunteers, they got some and now have refused to staff the committee. What is going on? Put them on the spot, they have no obligation to fill the committee but clearly this demonstrated their indifference to the significance of this committee. In the future why should anyone volunteer for anything in this association if the board really doesn’t care. Maybe they should all be replaced with a board that actually wants to engage the community in working together for the benefit of the entire community.
Two can play their game, put them on the spot either fill the committee or disband it but do something.
    Dennis
