Lost financial records

I requested 2021-2022 records from Hoa to which I was told they can’t locate them. But are wanting to double our dues without allowing review of Financials. I don’t have $500 to submit to Adre for complaint . What can I do?

    Catherine,
The association is required under the law to maintain its financial records as a permanent record. To claim they lost them is pure incompetence . I suspect they do t want anyone to see them. Without litigation to force them to provide the records than your only option is to engage the community prior to this assessment. Demand answers from the board on the proposed assessment increase, do not approve anything without satisfactory answers. Both special assessment and an annual increase of greater than 20% over the previous year requires the approval of at least a majority of all members of the community. If you don’t get the answers you deserve than initiate a recall of the entire board and replace the. With people who will respect the members they represent.
