2025 HOA budget

We just had an open meeting November 19th where the new 2035 budget was proposed.
The board voted on an increase in dues, but failed to vote on the whole budget.
What now? Does this mean if not corrected we go by last years budget.
We are an HOA in turmoil right now and many of us that noticed will not speak up.
We have an election coming up and there will be 4 new positions open out of 5.
Thank you

    benteh,

Clearly, your board does not understand its responsibility to the members. The board approves a budget, and the assessment is a product of that budget. There should have been a motion to approve the budget, and prior to the vote on that motion, any homeowner present should have been given the opportunity to speak on the issue. When the board votes on an assessment, it essentially states that the budget is irrelevant, and they are simply applying an unfounded assessment on the owners. This is totally wrong, but no state statutes currently dictate this process. I’ve prepared a proposal to address this that will be introduced by a legislator this session.
