Are Condo Insurance Claim Details Always Private?

Dennis,
When a claim is accepted by the master insurance policy(s), are those loss details ever subject to a basic records request or can that information be considered private and protected?

    PJ,
As I hope you are aware, I’m not an attorney and have never claimed to be an insurance expert. In a condominium, all unit owners own the common property together in common. As such, the assets and liabilities of the association are records subject to records requests. It is my belief, this would include the particulars of any insurance claim on the association’s property and liability insurance policies. Each and every unit owner is an insured individual on the association’s policy, and as such, I believe that you are entitled to understand the particulars of every claim.

Now, if any individual unit owner filed a claim on their personal insurance policy for any reason that is private and privileged information, and none of your business.
