Open Meeting Law
My homeowner spouse attended our most recent HOA meeting. Our property manager told board members they could not individually discuss HOA business with her outside of an HOA meeting. She said doing so would violate the open meeting law, even if only one board member met with her. My understanding of the open meeting law was you couldn’t have a quorum of board members discussing HOA business outside of a meeting.

It is always incredible to me that paid professional who claims to be trained in the understanding of the laws governing these communities cannot understand the very simple concepts of the open meetings law. You are absolutely correct. The open meeting law address discussion between a quorum of the board and not any individual communication between board members and community members as long as a quorum of the board does not participate.
